Come Train with Us

Welcome to the CT STORM

CT Storm is a Youth Track and Field club based in Southington, CT.

We accept athletes of all skill levels from Southington and local surrounding towns.
The club is focused on teaching the basics of the sport and individual growth in a fun and positive environment.
All athletes are introduced to running, jumping and throwing.
We compete regionally in USA Track & Field and AAU meets.

Start Date: April 2nd through June 12th

Days of the Week: Tuesday / Wednesday - 5:30 to 7:00 (5:30 to 6:30 for grades 1-4)

Location: Derynoski Elementary School (gravel track)

https://www.southingtontheathleticshop.com/connecticut-storm-track-field/

T-shirts: The club will cover the cost of the T-shirt for all participants. Additional T-shirts will be available for purchase by parents (select option on website).

Uniforms: Uniforms consist of both a tank jersey and black shorts and are mandatory for participation in meets. We've aimed to maintain consistency with last year's uniforms. If your uniform from last year still fits, there's no need to purchase a new one! Tank tops and shorts are available as separate items in case only one piece fits from last year.

We currently have coaching positions filled for Bantam (grades 1-4), Youth Sprints, and Youth Distance.

Join CT StorM

  • Who can Join?  - Anyone currently in 1st  - 8th Grade for Spring Session.  For summer session athletes can be entering 2nd - 12th Grade.  Summer Session will begin after school is out of session

  • We have opened the club up to younger athletes. They will train at the same time as the older athletes but in separate groups, however their sessions will only go from 5:30 - 6:30.

  • Parents -  We have quite a few board openings to assist in day to day planning.  As well, we could use a bit more help coaching.  No experience necessary.  The head coaches just need assistance implementing each day's practice. Email bricul421@gmail.com if interested in learning more. Coaches receive 50% discount for one of their athletes

  • How much does it cost to join?   Each session is $200 per athlete plus a uniform (separate cost) that you'll order through an outside vendor.  We do have discounts for families that have more than one athlete on the team.

  • We highly encourage athletes to participate in as many meets as possible.  Certain meets require membership in the AAU and USATF.  We will indicate when a membership is required.  This process does take some time and doing at the last minute doesn't work. See below for links to sign up for each of these.  You'll need the name and club number for CT Storm.

    • USATF = 05-0422

    • AAU - W3CAF5 (2024)

  • USATF requires an age verification step immediately following becoming a member.   Click here for info on how to send in birth certificates.

Practices - General Info

General Attendance Policy - Athletes are encouraged to attend as many practices as possible. However, there is no attendance policy.  We understand that youth are engaged in many activities.  This sport, though, does require repetition and practice to make improvements.

Spring Practices

  • Practices are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5:30 - 7pm for 5th - 8th grade and 5:30 - 6:30 pm for 1st - 4th.

  • Spring practices take place at Derynoski Elementary

  • Occasional Saturday practices may be held at Southington High Track.

Summer Practices

  • Summer practices take place at Southington High School track

  • June/July - Monday and Wednesday.  August - Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Practices will be from 5:30 - 7:00 pm (5:30 - 6:30 for 2nd - 5th).

Gear and Uniforms

  • Athletes should come dressed appropriately for the weather.  There is no practice uniform.

  • Athletes should have good running shoes (not basketball shoes etc).  It is highly recommended that you go to a specialty running store and get fitted for a shoe.

  • All athletes interested in participating in meets must purchase a competition uniform.  For athletes that need a uniform, the option will be available to select from during registration.

Get Involved

We ask that all parents take on some activities to help with the club.  From end of year events, help with practices, serving on the Club Board or even coaching.  If you are interested in coaching, you do not need a background in the sport.  We will set you up for success to get started as a coach.  Board members and coaches receive a discount on membership.   Email Brian to learn more.

Competitions

  • We encourage athletes to participate in scheduled meets, but we do not make them mandatory.  We ask that all athletes, including elementary school age athletes compete in at least two meets of their choosing.

  • There will be a variety of meets to include All-Comer Meets, Invitationals, Dual Meets and USATF / AAU championships.  The exact schedule for these meets will be distributed just prior to the first practice session via our Team Snap App.  Normally the meets are on Sundays, but there are a few weekday meets.

  • The Championship season will be in early June.  In most cases, only those participating in the Spring Session will be able to enter those meets.  All AAU and USATF meets require a membership with those organizations which must be signed up as a condition of being a member of the team regardless if you plan on competing.

  • Meet registration will be passed out to parents a week prior to meets.  Each meet has a slightly different registration, as well as payment process.  This year we'll be using Team Snap for online and simpler payments.

Coaches

  • All coaches on CT Storm have had background screenings conducted through USA Track and Field.  As well, they are all Safe Sport Qualified.

  • Our primary coaches are made up parents, local middle and high school coaches as well as high school seniors and college athletes that are still competing.

  • We try and keep our coach to athlete ratio each practice at 1:10.
